When experiencing change, especially if it’s unexpected, it can often bring on feelings of concern or anxiety. These past few years have been filled with challenges and 2022 will likely bring more of the same, so it’s best to be prepared.

Below are three phases we often (sometimes unconsciously) experience during times of change and steps you can take to get through them with greater ease.

Phase 1: Letting Go

Once change happens, it’s important to say goodbye to the old situation or state of being as you acknowledge the new one and contemplate how things will be different. If it feels difficult, seek support from others.

Action Steps: Call a friend or loved one to talk it through. Write down your thoughts and feelings to see what this is bringing up for you.

Phase 2: Sitting with it

Sit with the uncertainty of this change and acknowledge the feelings that are coming up. Concentrate on setting yourself up for success.

Action Steps: Move! Movement brings feelings up and out. Adjust activities and create daily rituals to keep your mood and energy elevated.

Phase 3: Acknowledging the New

Try to gain understanding of why the change is happening and where you fit within this new picture. Ask yourself how it will bring growth and opportunity.

Action Steps: Surround yourself with others who encourage or reinforce your success. Adjust your thinking to stay positive and forward thinking.

Remember, change is inevitable and the more prepared you are for it, the better.
